The Camp

Ethical & Responsible Machine Learning Summer Camp is an intermediate level camp focusing on the issues of sustainability, transparency and fairness in the data and machine learning domain. Workshops will tackle current ethical challenges and will be combined with introductory hands-on projects and coding for building trustworthy and fair ML models using various Python libraries.

Our goal is to inspire and give you a good foundation to continue learning more about the field. The camp is perfect for you who have some basic machine learning, AI and/or data science knowledge and would learn how to practically, with code, deal with ethical issues related to sustainability, transparency and fairness. We especially welcome people with different backgrounds as diversity is an important part of ethical ML and we believe that we can all learn from each other one step at a time.

When we’re not coding, there will be opportunities to do various social activities like yoga, hiking and hearing inspirational talks from the teachers and guest speakers. We will cook and clean together in smaller teams. The camp will be a social occasion to learn together with others and get a network within the field.

Come join us to learn how to build better machine learning models!

The Workshops

After the course we expect you to have got:

  • An introduction to the basic concepts in the ethical and responsible ML field
  • Understanding of the challenges related to different types of models and their level of explainability
  • Tools for increasing transparency in machine learning through explainability methods and visualizations
  • Understanding of the roots and consequences of discriminatory bias in machine learning models
  • Methods for identifying, measuring and mitigating discriminatory bias in machine learning
  • Techniques for measuring and monitoring environmental impact of ML models
